CoSpace and RoboMaker 2016

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The Singapore National CoSpace and RoboMaker Challenges 2016 is a National learning and challenge event jointly organized by the Robotics & Maker Academy (RMA) and the RoboCup Singapore National committee to provide opportunities for Primary and Secondary school students to learn coding and program robots in a conducive environment with hands-on activities. This is the 3rd year whereby the RMA is organising this event.

Participants first learn to build and code robots in training workshops (held on the 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th of November 2016), and subsequently use these robots in several challenges, such as CoSpace Dance, CoSpace Rescue and CoSpace Grand Prix (held on the 11th and 12th of November 2016). In doing so, participants are able to acquire the necessary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and computational thinking skills to gain a better understanding in coding and robotics – skill sets that are necessary to enable Singapore to gear up as the world’s first Smart Nation.

COMPETITION CATEGORIES

RMA SMART ROBOT FOR SMART NATION CHALLENGE

The RMA Smart Robot for Smart Nation Challenge has two sub-leagues, namely Make Code Challenge and CoSpace@Home.

Make Code Challenge

In the CoSpace Smart Robot Challenge, participants will make and code a smart robot to travel in the smart city in a real-virtual co-existence space. The robot starts in the real world. It will notify its virtual team robot after it reaches the teleportation terminal. The virtual robot will then continue the mission in the virtual world. The program code used in the virtual environment can be downloaded into a real robot built by the participants during the Challenge to travel in the real arena.

• Age group: Primary, Secondary

• Challenge Rule: CoSpace Make Code Challenge Rules 2016

CoSpace@Home

CoSpace @Home teaches and demonstrates the application of service and assistive robot technology with high relevance for future personal domestic applications. A set of benchmark tests is used to evaluate the robots abilities and performance in a simulated home environment setting. The demonstration focus lies on the following domains but is not limited to:

• Human Robot Interaction

• Robot-Interaction & Cooperation, Navigation and object Recognition

• Object Manipulation, Adaptive Behaviors

COSPACE GRAND PRIX CHALLENGE

In the CoSpace F1 Challenge, teams are required to present a Robot Race in the real-virtual co-existing space. The robot race begins in the real world. It will notify its virtual team robot after it reaches the teleportation terminal. The virtual robot will continue the race in the virtual world to complete the course. Teams are required to develop appropriate strategies for both real and virtual autonomous robot. A standard real robot platform will be used.

• Age group: Primary, Secondary

• Challenge Rule: CoSpace Grand Prix Challenge Rules 2016

COSPACE DANCE CHALLENGE

CoSpace Performance means one or more real robots, virtual robots, human come together to present a 1 to 2 minutes performance (theatre show or dance) in a creative designed real and virtual coexistence world.

The CoSpace Performance Challenge is intended to be very open-ended.

• Age group: Primary, Secondary

• Challenge Rule: CoSpace Dance Challenge Rules 2016

ROBOCUPJUNIOR COSPACE RESCUE CHALLENGE

In CoSpace Rescue, teams are required to develop and program appropriate strategies for both real and virtual autonomous robots to navigate through the real and virtual worlds and collect objects, while competing with another team’s robot that is searching and collecting objects in the same real and virtual worlds.

• Age group

o Singapore: lower Primary, upper Primary, Secondary

o International: Primary, Secondary

• Challenge Rule: RCJ CoSpace Rescue Challenge Rules 2016
